Liberty Village Reveals 5 Free Outdoor Gyms Drawing Hundreds Monthly
Liberty Village offers several no-cost outdoor fitness options that draw steady crowds from nearby neighborhoods.
How we reported this

The pull-up and dip station upgrades at Riverside Park on Elm Avenue opened to the public on June 12 and now record 80 to 100 users on weekday mornings.
Outdoor fitness use has climbed this summer because many residents want low-cost ways to stay active after the Village Recreation Board cut indoor gym subsidies in April. The change left hundreds of people looking for nearby alternatives that do not require memberships or travel across the river.
Two Circuits Residents Use Most
Riverside Park on Elm Avenue sits two blocks from the Liberty Village transit hub and includes a full circuit of body-weight stations plus a 400-meter gravel loop. A short walk north, the Oak Grove site run by the Liberty Fitness Initiative on Maple Street features parallel bars, resistance bands anchored to fixed posts, and a stretch zone shaded by mature trees. Both locations stay open from dawn until 10 p.m. with no fees or reservations.
The Liberty Village Health Department report issued June 3 showed outdoor fitness equipment logged 15,200 visits in the first quarter of 2026, up 28 percent from the same period last year. The same document noted that 62 percent of those visits occurred at the two sites named above.
How to Use the Spots This Week
Beginners can follow the laminated route maps posted at each entrance or download the free Liberty Village Parks app for timed circuits. Sessions typically last 30 to 45 minutes. Anyone starting a new routine should check with a local medical professional before increasing intensity. Updated equipment maintenance schedules appear on the village website each Monday.
