High Park's Outdoor Pools Offer Dedicated Lap Swimming This Summer
High Park locals are using marked lanes and natural rock formations this summer to keep up steady lap routines close to home.
How we reported this

High Park residents logged more than 4,200 lap-swimming visits at local outdoor sites during June 2026, according to High Park Recreation Board figures released last week.
The numbers come as households look for low-cost fitness options after months of economic uncertainty. Entry fees at the main sites remain at $4 for adults and $2 for seniors, well below indoor gym rates, and the facilities stay open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Labour Day.
Two spots drawing steady crowds
The High Park Aquatic Centre on Parkside Drive maintains six 25-metre lanes with clear markings and a shallow end for warm-ups. Swimmers can reach the centre by the 80 High Park bus or by walking south from Bloor Street West. On the western side of the park, the rock pools along Ellis Avenue offer irregular stone edges that create natural resistance for longer strokes. The site sits near the Swansea neighbourhood and fills quickly after 7 a.m. on weekdays.
Both locations sit within a 15-minute walk of the Roncesvalles intersection, letting residents combine a swim with errands along the main strip. The Recreation Board added extra lane ropes at the aquatic centre in late May after complaints about crowding during morning rush hours.
Practical steps before heading out
Water-quality readings are posted each morning on the board’s website and at the entrance kiosks. Swimmers are asked to arrive with their own towels and to shower before entering the lanes. For those new to outdoor laps, the board runs a free 30-minute orientation on Tuesdays at 7 a.m. at the aquatic centre that covers lane etiquette and basic safety.
Residents can also check the posted schedule for lane closures tied to school programs or maintenance. The next full cleaning at the rock pools is set for 15 July. Those planning a visit this week should bring water and a light snack, since the nearest café sits two blocks north on Roncesvalles Avenue.
