Young Centre Brings Theater to Historic Distillery District

The Young Centre for the Performing Arts serves as a primary theater hub in Toronto's Distillery District, housing the Soulpepper Theatre Company and the George Brown Theatre School across four performance spaces in renovated 19th-century Victorian industrial buildings.

These programs take place within the pedestrian-only area that contains over 40 specialty boutiques, restaurants, galleries and theatres.

Recent Shifts in Performance Studios

After Nightwood Theatre and Tapestry Opera vacated the Artscape Distillery District Studios in 2024, the companies established the new Nancy & Ed Jackman Performance Centre at 877 Yonge Street. The Artscape studios had previously housed over 70 artists and organizations.

The district attracts over two million visitors annually, making the venues and events accessible entry points for those interested in local theater and performance programming.
